I connected with Nathalie Mukendi on Instagram, and we quickly became online friends. Her stunning photos and sense of style are immediately evident upon visiting her Instagram @thecoquettediaries She has a mix of bright colors and accessories that I can’t get enough off! Which is why I’m so excited to team up with her today and have her share how to style a polka dot dress!
Nathalie is also a mother to a sweet little baby girl who makes cameo appearances throughout her feed. Love the twinning looks and big smiles! Head over to Nathalie’s Instagram account and give her a follow! You can also find her blog at The Coquette Diaries, check it out and subscribe.
The Polka Dot Dress
Here Nathalie has chosen to style a classic polka dot dress, which is print that never really goes out of style. It seems polka dots come back around hard every few years, and this past year has been no exception. Polka dots were one of the standout trends. Nathalie has transformed this traditionally spring/summer pattern into one that is fall ready for all occasions. I love how the length, color, and texture of the jackets and sweaters she tops the dress with change the mood of her outfit in each shot.
Peep the fall foliage in the backdrop of these gorgeous shots, and then read on for an interview in which Nathalie shares where she gets her fashion inspiration and the importance of carrying oneself with confidence when it comes to having style.
Interview with Nathalie Mukendi
What piece did you choose to style and what made you choose it?
I love polka dot! For the longest time I’ve been looking for a dress that I could wear throughout the year and style it depending on the season. I found this one at H&M and it was on sale for under $15 (my kind of deal). I love the fact that it’s versatile, you can dress it down for a more casual look, or dress it up for an office, evening, or holiday look.
Is there anything that inspires your fashion choices?
Well, I don’t really follow the latest trends to the “T”. I love to invest in pieces that I can rewear throughout the year, statement items that are chic, timeless, and elegant. One place I love to go is Pinterest. If I see something that catches my eye, I will try to replicate it by adding my personal style and touches!
What does the word “style” mean to you?
That’s a great question! “Style” is not just about fashion or the clothes you wear. For me, it’s all about confidence, class, and the way you carry yourself. You can have all the beautiful clothes in the world, but if you don’t have class, confidence, and you don’t carry yourself well, ,all those beautiful clothes are just a waste! My parents always taught me that you can never buy style or class, it’s either you have it or you don’t. So you can wear a $10 outfit, but if you carry yourself with class and confidence, you will look like a million bucks!
