4 Charcoal Beauty Products that Rock
Activated charcoal attracts and holds on to dirt, oil, and bacteria, which allows for the deep cleaning and polishing of skin, teeth, and scalp. What is activated charcoal? It is charcoal that has had oxygen added to it to increase its absorption, making charcoal even more powerful.
Charcoal Deodorant
Game changer here if you’ve been searching for an all natural deodorant! I love the all natural Native brand of deodorant, and it is now being offered in a charcoal based formulation. If you have sensitive skin, consider trying Native deodorant, they have 14 different scents, and an assortment that are made for sensitive skin. They also have variety packs, so you can try several different scents and see which one you like best. I’ve tried the charcoal, coconut & vanilla, lavender & rose, peony & jasmine tea, unscented, and cucumber & mint. I liked them all!
Charcoal Face Masks
You have likely tried a mud mask before, though have you ever tried one with charcoal in it? So deep cleaning, my pores feel cleaned out after using a charcoal mask. One of my top beauty must haves is a charcoal mask, and since I am a product whore and will try anything and everything looking for the next best thing, I can assure you Glamglow SUPERMUD Activated Charcoal Treatment Mask is the best I’ve tried. Apparently I’m not the only one that thinks this, as the mask was designated as an Allure Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Award Winner of 2019.
June 2020 update – Since I wrote this article, I’ve been turned on to Beautycounter products by several friends. I love them so much I became a consultant myself so I would always have access to their newest products and be informed about clean beauty efforts in the industry. Beautycounter is the industry leaders in clean beauty and skincare, not only formulating products without toxins, though also ensuring the entire supply and manufacturing chain is ethical and sustainable. They also support change for stricter regulations surrounding what companies are allowed to use in beauty products. My new favorite mask is the Counter + Charcoal Facial Mask. My skin looked the smoothest and most even it had ever looked after using a charcoal mask. I swear it drew out the impurities from my pores! If you would like to try the mask, you can order it through the links above. There should be no reason for me to contact you, as they ship direct from the warehouse. If you do have questions however, I would love to hear from you! Please feel free to contact me anytime regarding any thoughts or questions you may have about anything you see on my blog.
Hack- if you have an acne spot, dot some of this charcoal mask on your bump, and this will help it to dry out faster, as the charcoal draws the bacteria out. It also seems to calm inflammation. Don’t forget to wash the spot off before you leave the house!
Charcoal Toothpaste
If you have sensitive teeth, you might find that a charcoal toothpaste feels less inflammatory than other types, as they tend to be less minty, and tooth whitening effects come from the charcoal as opposed to other more abrasive ingredients. Don’t be surprise that the toothpaste is black, it rinses clean away, I promise! Charcoal toothpastes are said to help with teeth whitening, and I have enjoyed using Kopari Coconut Charcoal Toothpaste. It does not contain fluoride, sulfites, or artificial sweeteners.
Charcoal Cleansing Soap
A couple years ago, I gave my husband a bar of Herbivore Bamboo Charcoal Detoxifying Soap Bar for Christmas in his stocking. He loved it so much, he continues to use it. This bar of soap can be used both on the face and for the body. It is good for all skin types, and can help with redness, pores, and acne and blemishes. It is especially good for oily and acne-prone skin, which makes it a nice soap for use all over the body.
June 2020 update – as with the Face Masks, Beautycounter also makes a Charcoal Cleansing Bar that is great for men and women alike. The soap is made with a palm-free soap base, so it can also be used on the face to detoxify and assist in clearing acne without drying out skin.
If a body wash is more your thing, try the Counterman Energizing Charcoal Body Wash. Although this product is part of the Counterman line, I like to use it too. It has a refreshing scent and is made without harmful sulfates that strip away moisture.
