I’m always looking to improve my habits for healthier hair. I’ve found over the years that the less I do with my hair, the healthier it tends to be. There are other activities I’ve found that have improved the health of my hair, which require little to know effort. Actually, they save me time! Saving time and healthier hair? Read on!
Habits for Healthier Hair
Wash as infrequently as you can.
If you’re going to just be at home relaxing over the weekend, why wash your hair? This is the easiest habit for healthier hair.
Sleep on a silk pillowcase.
Hair can glide on gentle silk and frizz is reduced. I use this silk pillowcase.
Invest in a gloss treatment at the salon.
Whether getting a cut, blowout, or my highlights touched up, I always request a gloss treatment when at the salon. Gloss treatments do exactly what they sound like, adding shine and “toning” the hair so it looks richer. They usually doesn’t cost that much, and should last for about 20 washes.
Use a hair mask once a week at home.
Hair masks strengthen hair strands to minimize breakage and add shine. This one smells so good, Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Seed Oil – by Christophe Robin. I also like Garnier Fructis Smoothing Treat 1 Minute Hair Mask with Avocado Extract.
Dry shampoo is your friend.
See my first point. We all know by now that dry shampoo reduces oil and “refreshes” the hair so it can go longer between washes. Moroccan Oil makes a great dry shampoo, one for dark tones, and one for light tones.
Let your hair airdry.
Self-explanatory. The less washing and heat tools used on hair, the healthier it will be. My hair doesn’t look the most polished if I don’t blow dry it, so I usually leave this option for the summer time, when a more beachy vibe works better.
