How To Wear Hats with Long Hair

Accessories

I was not always a hat wearer. I used to love seeing looks accessorized with hats and wonder if hats had a place in my life. Once I just went ahead and bought a couple of hats, I realized they totally fit into my wardrobe and are the most fun of all accessories! Now I have a collection of hats that I lovingly display on a wall in my office. You can wear hats too! There are so many beautiful hats out there, you might decide to start your own hat wall!

Find some inspiration

First, hop on Instagram and look for some hat inspiration! Think about the scenarios and outfits you might like to wear a hat with. When looking for hats, use these examples as your guide. Do you see yourself wearing it with boho dresses to a music festival? Maybe you live by the beach and frequently lunch outdoors? Or perhap a pair of ripped jeans and jaunty boots is more your vibe? There are hats to go with all kinds of looks, and many of them can work in multiple ways.

Find a hat that speaks your style language

What is your typical style? Laid back? Perhaps a fedora is for you. Chic? A wider brim floppy hat in black with feathers could be more to your liking.  One of my favorite hats is an upcycled hat.  An old Louis Vuitton bag was given new life by being cut into strips. One strip was placed around the rim of the hat to make it “fancy”. And fancy it is, when I wear this hat or post myself wearing it on Instagram, I get so many compliments. Find something that is unique to you and makes a statement about your style!

Buy a hat of good quality

The hats I share range in price from under $20 to just over $200 Buy one you feel is of good quality and you will feel that much more comfortable wearing it.

Consider the season

Some hats are made for boho chic fall looks, while others are suitable for summer.  I have a gorgeous floppy hat with trimmed with peacock feathers that I wear during the summer while next to the pool. In that way, this hat feels fresh each season because I wear it during the summer months. I’ve had this hat for ten years and it is still as chic and stylish as the first year I bought it. That’s the thing about a good hat. They never go out of style!

Hats make the outfit

Here are some hat inspiration images of some of my favorite hats. I’ve also included a couple images from NYFW where I sat front row at the Global Fashion Collective and was photographed by Getty Images. Swear it was the hat that elevated my outfit, what do you think?
